Women2Watch Tradition – Honouring Successful Young Women
An annual tradition at Diocesan is the Women2Watch Assembly that plays an important role in the fabric of our school. Since leaving school, these successful women have demonstrated excellence and shown how the school’s high standards have underpinned their courage and commitment to succeed.

In sharing their outstanding journeys, these women exemplify our core values of honesty, integrity, respectfulness and empathy. During their education at Diocesan, they developed the confidence to excel, and their stories inspire us all.

This event is each year championed by Ms Jane Latimer who is chair of the committee. Jane was an ex-Diocesan Head Prefect and former parent.  She is also a successful barrister and a valued member of the School’s Board of Governors.  Each year the committee identify amazing under 36-year-old women to honour.

The Women2Watch winners, their families, and special guests, attended our assembly Monday 26 August. There were two wonderful recipients – Tessa Vincent, and Alice Mander.

Kate Vincent attended the assembly to accept the award on behalf of her sister Tessa who is working in London. Tessa sent us a video and speech encouraging the girls to follow their passion and to continue learning in ways that enhance and grow your knowledge of the world around you. Tessa’s passion for the environment has seen her apply knowledge to become a speaker at conferences and an advisor to Government.

Alice’s speech also included three points for Dio students to consider – firstly – use your voice and don’t be afraid to take on challenging tasks. Secondly, follow what inspires you and her third point was to embrace what makes you “you”. Alice spoke from the heart about her initial unwillingness to accept her disability, or to see herself as disabled. She spoke of the negative and deficit attitudes people often have toward disability. Alice decided that it wasn’t her that needed to change, it was the rest of the world. She has set about leading that change through her voluntary work, while continuing her legal career in Wellington.

Special thanks to the Women2Watch Committee and to Jane Latimer who chairs the group and organises this recognition of excellence in our alumnae community.
