Winter Tournament Week officially kicks off on Monday 2 September, with a number of Cup, Championship and Tournament events being held around the country. It is one of the largest secondary school sports events in New Zealand, with thousands of students participating.
Here is a quick summary of where our Dio teams are based next week:
Our Hockey 1st XI team is playing in the Federation Cup/Marie Fry tournament in Hamilton, and our 2nd XI are playing in Dunedin at the Chris Arthur Tournament.
Underwater Hockey is in Mt Maunganui; the Netball Premiers are competing at UNISS (Upper North Island Secondary Schools) tournament at Waitakere Netball; the NZSS Interschools Equestrian event is in Taupo; and our Football 1st XI are playing in the NZ Secondary Schools Tournament in Nelson.
Later in the week is the Cross Country Road Race Festival in Pakuranga, the Basketball Northern Regional Cup, also held in West Auckland at the Trusts Arena; the Lacrosse Premiers head to Te Awamutu on Thursday; and on Saturday and Sunday at the end of next week, the Cycling team are racing in the NZSS Northern Tour in Mt Wellington and Panmure; while the Fencers are duelling at the Fencing Nationals at Mt Albert Grammar School.
We wish all our student athletes the best of luck! Â We applaud you for the hours of training you have put into your sport to compete at this level.
The following week is the Year 7 and 8 AIMS event in Tauranga and Mt Maunganui – so it is a particularly busy time for our athletes, and our Sports Department.
