We are thrilled to celebrate the many talents of Yolanda Zhang, a Year 8 student who is making waves in the Performing Arts! Yolanda is a versatile and accomplished performer, with skills across instrumental music, singing, speech and drama – and now, she has added film to her repertoire.

Over the recent holidays, Yolanda took on the leading role of Mulan in Channel 33’s annual Stars of Glory show, a significant challenge that she embraced with determination. Not only did she showcase her acting and singing talents, but she also underwent specialist training in sword fighting, adding a new dimension to her already impressive skill set. The experience marked a steep learning curve, but Yolanda proved herself to be a natural at every step.

Yolanda’s musical talents are equally remarkable. As a Grade 8 violinist and pianist, she recently stepped into the spotlight as both MC and violinist at the 2024 NZ International Children & Teens Gala. This role required a blend of versatility, confidence, and poise, and Yolanda rose to the occasion with ease, once again demonstrating her exceptional abilities.

Beyond her individual achievements, Yolanda is dedicated to using her talents to serve the community. She has been visiting Friendship House He Whare Tangata, where she shares her love of music through singing and violin performances, spreading joy to those around her.

In addition to her impressive solo performances, Yolanda is an integral part of our school’s music program. She serves as the Leader of the Year 7 & 8 choir, Virtuoso Voce, and is a violinist in both the Symphony Orchestra and our elite Chamber Orchestra. She is also part of a string trio for chamber music, contributing her skills in yet another ensemble setting.

Yolanda Zhang is truly a student to watch, and we look forward to seeing where her talents will take her next. Her dedication, versatility, and passion for the arts make her a standout performer, and we couldn’t be prouder of her many achievements.
