Once a year, Eden Park opens its gates to increasing numbers of orienteers. A schools’ event is held during the day, followed by a public fundraising event in the evening.
This year 16 Dio orienteers took part. As well as the excitement of exploring parts of the stadium not usually open to the public, they completed a complex and technical orienteering sprint course. For most, this was their first experience of multi-level mapping, which is very difficult to work out when moving at speed. The timing is paused as students pass through the changing rooms and coaches’ box, allowing time for photos and exploration.
With over 100 competitors in the junior categories, placing in the top 10 is an outstanding achievement. Congratulations to the following Dio orienteers:
