Dio Squad Shines at College Sport Auckland Champs and Head of Harbour Regatta
After a thrilling weekend at the North Island Club Champs, the rowing squad dove into a busy two weeks with the College Sport Auckland Champs on Sunday 4 February at Lake Karapiro, followed by the Head of Harbour Regatta on Saturday 10 February at Lake Pupuke.
The College Sport Auckland Champs, a new addition this season, marked the squad’s debut at the event. It proved to be a resounding success, with Dio emerging as the top girls’ school and second overall. The girls’ hard work paid off with impressive results across various events. The senior students excelled in the U17 and U18 categories, clinching numerous victories:
- 1st in U17 Eight
- 1st and 2nd in U17 Quad
- 1st and 3rd in U17 Double
- 1st in U17 Single
- 1st in U18 Quad
- 2nd in U18 Double
- 2nd in U18 Single
- 3rd in U17 Four
- 3rd in U17 Pair
The U16s also performed admirably, securing:
- 3rd in U16 Eight
- 2nd in U16 Quad
Novices earned multiple medals, including:
- 1st and 3rd in U18 Novice Eight
- 3rd in U15 Octuple
- 2nd and 3rd in U15 Eight
The Head of Harbour Regatta, a familiar event for Dio, saw continued success. The squad emerged as the third overall school and top girls’ school for the fourth consecutive year. Once again, the seniors delivered stellar performances, securing top spots across various events, including:
- 2nd and 3rd in U17 Four
- 1st in U18 Double
- 1st in U17 Quad
- 1st in U17 and U18 Single
- 3rd in U17 Eight
- 2nd and 3rd in U17 Pair
- 1st in U18 Quad
- 3rd in U18 Eight
The U16s also shined, earning the following:
- 3rd in U16 Eight
- U16 Four
- U16 Quad
Novices impressed in their first Head of Harbour regatta, earning medals in the following events:
- 1st and 3rd in U18 Novice Eight
- 3rd in U15 Double
- 2nd in U15 Eight
- 1st in U18 Novice Four
Division 2 crews also contributed significantly to the squad’s overall success at these regattas. With these accomplishments, the squad looks forward to upcoming events, including the North Island Secondary Schools Regatta and the Maadi Regatta, with determination and optimism.
