TrioAstor – Y12 He-Min Lee on piano, Maia-Dean Martin on violin and Y11 Sharon Hung on cello were the Auckland regional winners of the highly prestigious competition and last Sunday they gave a stunning performance of Astor Piazzolla’s ‘Four Seasons’ securing them the Gold Award at the National finals of the NZ chamber music competition. This is now the 4th national final at which Diocesan musicians have been represented.

Every top level group performing at the Michael Fowler Centre was stunning, it was an exhilarating experience for everyone and the level of technical excellence and artistry is of the highest international standard for this age group. It is quite staggering listening to the 12 finalists chosen from some 500 groups competing nationwide. They performed in front of a huge audience at the Michael Fowler Centre, including the Rt. Hon. Chris Finlayson, the Mayor of Wellington and so many of NZ’s brightest and best in the music world, and they were presented their award by Sir James Wallace.

All the girls felt it was a great honour to be performing with the very best of NZ’s young musicians and to be representing Dio and we are very proud of the achievement.

Listen to the girls perform their winning piece at a recent performance in the Auckland Town Hall.
