After a 33 year wait, the Dio ski team took the overall win at the North Island Secondary Schools’ Championships at Turoa.

The A team of Darcey McNaught, Anabella Eady, Jenna Johnson, Meg Wallace and Francesca Reade skied well above their starting draws to gain high points and take a three point lead over St Cuthbert’s after Day 1. The Dio B team of Hannah Crawford, Alexandra French, Molly Crawford, Lucie Harkess and Annabel Hutchison also had a strong day, accumulating 60 points and putting them in a strong position heading in to the dual slalom.

The girls took to the top of the mountain on Day 3 with the intent of winning the team title. Both teams took maximum points, with Dio A claiming the coveted overall title for the top team across both boys and girls, and also winning the girls’ title for the third year in a row. The Dio B team finished fourth girls’ team, and 10th overall – an outstanding result and highlighting the depth of talent within Dio skiing.

Darcey McNaught also took maximum points on the senior course to come first and take out the senior girls’ individual grand slalom title.

The following girls had top 10 individual finishes: Annabella Eady – 5th junior girls, Meg Wallace – 7th junior girls, Alexandra French – 10th junior girls.

Congratulations to everyone – an amazing effort by all!
