Last Thursday, in the final of the Auckland region premier hockey competition, our Diocesan 1st XI hockey team played St Cuthbert’s in the play-offs for 1st and 2nd, after qualifying in a close fought semi-final game against St Kentigern College the previous week.
We were delighted to see the girls achieve the silver medal, eventually losing to St Cuth’s in a close game by 2-1.
The girls played a brilliant second half and were so very close to dominating play and turning around the deficit. We congratulate the girls on their spirited performance and wish them well for the next round of competition, Auckland Supercity.
They are a fantastic team coached by Jason Butcher and we were delighted to see the very high level of women’s hockey on display from both teams.
